J 161 Progress

  • Aug. 26,27 - Carpet installed
  • Aug. 29,30 - Cubicles and partitions installed
  • Aug. 25-30 - Painting, security, cabling, power installed
  • Sep. 1,2,3 - Available for occupant inspection and move

Please talk to your department chair about identifying a space. After you have located a space, you may choose to bring your printer and anything else you would like. New chairs will be provided, but if you are truly attached to your office chair, bring it down. Make sure everything will fit comfortably. IT will specify a time for moving phones and computers.

Security for J 161

  • Concern for security in J 161 has focused on 2 major issues - convenient access for students who wish to consult with faculty and protection of property of the faculty/staff who will occupy the space.

J 161 has 2 sets of double doors for access. Only one will be used for entrance; both used for exit. Door security is with card access, and all occupants will be provided with a card. It is suggested to allow open access to J 161 M-F from 8am to 8pm for the benefit of students who wish to talk with their instructors. However, with open access, the number of work areas, the variability in occupancy, and the layout of space, concern for security for personal property is now an issue. Burt Matthews, Wayne Unsell, Gary Chasteen, and George Scott met to discuss options. We discussed having someone at a desk at the entrance, but that does not address the monitoring of activity in the work area, particularly when only a few faculty are present. After consideration of several options, the decision was made to investigate the use of digital video surveillance in J 161 to monitor entrance, exit, and along the work area "halls". The video will not be monitored and will be used only by University Police when an incident has been reported. The objective is to provide access for students and security for faculty/staff.

  • September 1, 2, 3 - Phase 1A (SW) move into J-161
  • September 2, 3, 4, 5 - Install new chilllers
  • September 6 - Phase 1A occupants operate from J-161
  • September 8 - Demolition and rough-in of phase 1A
  • November 15- Getting updated schedule from contractor
  • November 23 - Phase 1B turned over to owners
  • November 28 - Phase 2A (NW) Demolition and rough in
  • January 10 - Phase 2A turned over to owners
  • January 16 - Phase 2B (NE) Demolition and rough in
  • February 23 - Phase 2B turned over to owners
